Meiji Hashimoto, a Japanese painter born in Hamada, nurtured exceptional talent from a young age and later developed his unique style known as the "Hashimoto style," establishing an unwavering position in the Japanese painting world. Throughout his life, he devoted his passion to painting, leaving behind numerous traces of practice in sketches and line drawings.

This exhibition is In commemoration of the 120th anniversary of the birth of Hashimoto Meiji, an honorary citizen of Hamada City. In this exhibition, materials such as sketches and painting tools donated to Hamada City in 2023 by Hashimoto's son, Hiroyasu, will be displayed, showcasing how Hashimoto approached his artworks and the process of creating them. Additionally, paintings held by the Shimane Prefectural Museum of Art will also be exhibited, introducing the efforts made towards completing the artworks.

Various sketches, including portraits and sketches of animals and plants drawn during his university days, as well as numerous drawings of his favorite motifs such as geishas, cranes, and flowers, will be showcased. Furthermore, sketches of landscapes drawn during his travels to China and Europe, along with precious painting materials and documents used by Hashimoto, will also be introduced.
