Living in contemporary society, we are often detached from a sense of control over the saturated stimulus of the world surrounding us. A sensation accelerated by current social/media outlets, climate change, and advanced consumerism, it is very easy to feel as a stranger in our own daily lives. One way to navigate this unfamiliarity is through the possibilities offered by contemporary art practices, which create (new) symbolic languages that can express or communicate our experiences. Art that attunes itself to the rhythms of nature—plants, water formations, and the cosmos—can serve as a passageway, helping us feel more connected to the macro and micro systems that shape our world.

cosmohaptics refer to the intimate relationships with the world’s ongoing transformations, intertwining the materialization of planets with our personal narratives. At the same time, they refer to the theorization of ecosmological concepts, which has been at the core of recent works and collaborations of Chloe Paré. Merging the speculative and boundless wonder evoked by observing celestial bodies with the sensual intimacy of touch as a means of knowledge production, this exhibition offers a new material approach to embodied experience as planetary beings.

In cosmohaptics, sculptural installations adapt to The 5th Floor and its architecture. Room 501 can be understood as a recognition of the crisis, as an acknowledgement of the complexities brought on by contemporary experiences. Room 502 is instead an observation of the affects and the grievances that can arise when experiencing modes of crisis, aiming to create new communal methods of healing. Room 503 will celebrate the experimentality of unexpected connections as the basis for reformulating ways of cohabiting. The space will include a reading nook that will host ongoing collaborations and programming in the form of printed works, film screenings and workshops.

Ultimately, cosmohaptics are an exploration of the fractured planets we inhabit, and the ones that, in turn, inhabit us.
