During the war, the postwar reconstruction period, and the period of rapid economic growth, children faced social problems unique to this era, such as losing their parents due to the war or having to work as laborers in the family business. At the same time, there were many scenes of children playing in the streets. This exhibition traces the history of the Showa period by introducing images of children captured through the lens of some of Japan’s most accomplished photographers.
