Chihiro Murata
For several years before the construction of the new campus for Kyoto City University of Arts, numerous students and alumni of the university, including textile graduate Chihiro Murata, created and exhibited their works in the building of the former Takahito Elementary School. The old school building was demolished before the construction, leaving only the preserved commemorative ginkgo tree, the gymnasium, and the biotope of the Takase River. A new building now stands on that site.

This exhibition features a collection of works Murata created using photographs and videos recorded at the former Takahito Elementary School. Murata's technique of letting soft-colored dyes bleed onto fabric, capturing the passage of time as the dye sets, evokes hazy, indistinct images from memory. These works, emerging from specific spaces and moments, may resonate with the memories of each viewer. The blending of the visual images in the works with the images in one's mind represents another form of experience expressed through Murata's dyeing techniques.
