Chihiro Iwasaki
It's been 50 years since the passing of picture book artist Chihiro Iwasaki. Over this half-century, the world has changed dramatically, and the environment surrounding children has also evolved. What might Iwasaki's art have to say to us in today's age?

Throughout 2024, the Chihiro Art Museum (Tokyo and Azumino) will explore Iwasaki's art through the themes of "Play," "Nature," and "Peace," incorporating perspectives from modern science. The exhibition will be directed by the art unit Plaplax, creating a new exhibition that invites both children and adults not just to view, but to participate.

"I tell myself, ‘We are all friends,’ and I seek out a nostalgic, gentle homeland of the heart. It is all properly stored within the picture books."

Iwasaki left these words as she created her picture books. Her works may contain secrets for creating peace. Through Iwasaki's art and words, if each person reflects on peace, many answers may emerge.

This exhibition will incorporate the principles of inclusive design, using Chihiro Iwasaki's art as a starting point to seek clues for building peace, respecting the individuality of everyone from children to adults.
