Among the various animals in Ukiyo-e, cats were the most frequently portrayed pets. Moreover, cats have been depicted in all forms, from anthropomorphic cats that dance and go to school to monster cats.
This exhibition features various works featuring cats, including masterpieces by Kuniyoshi Utagawa, Hiroshige Utagawa, and Yoshitoshi Tsukioka, and "toy paintings" for children. Enjoy the cute, humorous, and sometimes mysterious world of Ukiyo-e cats.
