“Becoming Who I Am” is a solo exhibition by artist Bico Kondo, curated by Vanessa de Vries. This exhibition explores themes of identity formation and self-discovery, inspired by the artist’s journey—an introspective voyage that has finally brought her closer to her true self. Through her experiences and interactions with society, Kondo expresses these themes primarily through painting, prompting viewers to reflect on questions such as: “Who am I, truly?” and “What does it mean to embrace oneself?” Her works, shaped by personal memories, cultural heritage, gender, and societal norms, convey a universal sense of inquiry. Through art, viewers are invited to confront their own identities and uncover new perspectives.
