Welcome to Casa das Andorinhas: Home of Swallows, an exhibition by Portuguese-Chinese artist Bibi Lei, held at the Portuguese Embassy in Japan.

This exhibition explores the swallow as a symbol of migration, transformation, and belonging—reflecting the artist’s own journey between East and West.

With roots in both Portugal and Macau and currently living in Tokyo, Bibi Lei sees the swallow as a metaphor for her dual heritage. More than a traveler, the swallow represents “Home”—not as a fixed place, but as an emotional dimension shaped by where the heart belongs.

In Portuguese culture, swallows symbolize homecoming and renewal, themes that resonate in Lei’s work. Through vibrant colors, abstract forms, and a fusion of Portuguese and Chinese artistic influences, “Casa das Andorinhas”invites you to reflect on identity, movement, and the interconnectedness of cultures.

Let the presence of the swallow guide you on a journey of discovery—of home, migration, and harmony between worlds.
