Banksy & Street Art (R)evolution

The Museum of Art, Ehime
Finished

Artists

Banksy, Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat et al.
In recent years, street art has become widely known due to the activities of Banksy. Its beginnings trace back to the 1970s in New York, where young people, amidst social unrest due to poverty and rising crime rates, began writing their signatures, commonly known as "tags," on subway cars and station interiors. This exhibition starts with the works of the pioneers of the graffiti era. It includes about 90 pieces, featuring those who bridged the gap between graffiti art and fine art, such as Haring and Basquiat, as well as street artists active in Europe and Japan, including works by Banksy. It delves into the history and essence of street art, born from social and cultural contexts and continuously evolving to this day.
