Aya Momose
Aya Momose has been creating works that self-referentially question the asymmetry between seeing and being seen, speaking and being spoken to through visual media. Their work not only exposes the fluctuation and uncertainty of the subject but also demonstrates various forms of communication where interactions with others may falter yet still manifest. They explore structures that create voices considered non-existent despite their presence in the environment, and in recent years, have explicitly addressed issues surrounding gender and sexuality.

In this exhibition, based on footage shot in June 2014, Aya Momose invites viewers to contemplate the past decade and perhaps the next, questioning the evolving nature of their work. The footage depicts public bodies adorned with official attire alongside privately revealed bodies within a chorus of voices, layered into a single visage. What emerges is not just a momentary image of society or individuals from the present, but a vision of people striving to create realities each day, with their desires and aspirations.
