Auto Moai
Auto Moai's paintings depict the same motifs: anonymous human figures, eyes that look back at the viewer, and animals existing beyond language. These elements emerge as fragments, stripped of meaning and taking on a luminous symbolism from the depths of memory, suddenly appearing.
"One day, my mother made a handmade bear plush toy. However, it was abandoned before it was completed. I was being watched by the bear that had not yet been given eyes."
The words shared in preparation for this exhibition reflect a deep interest in familial bonds as an intimacy (almost overlapping with violence) and existence (easily slipping away from logic) that have been glimpsed through the recurring motifs. By tracing the thin, delicate thread that Auto Moai speaks of as a device to transcend time or as an exhibition's inherent ritual, to which hell does it ultimately connect?
This exhibition consists of paintings, murals, soft sculptures, and drawings, connecting various works Auto Moai has created over the years. Additionally, a talk show is scheduled during the exhibition period, so please join us for both the viewing and the event.
