Asae Soya
Born in 1974 in Kanagawa Prefecture, Asae Soya obtained a Doctorate in Fine Arts from the Oil Painting Department of Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School in 2006. She began to make a name for herself while still in graduate school, winning the VOCA Prize (Grand Prize) in 2002 and holding a large-scale solo exhibition at the Mito Art Museum in 2013. In addition to her painting work, she continuously creates large-scale installations using cutting sheets as the main material at various public facilities domestically and internationally. In February of this year, she presented her first three-dimensional work as public art at Hazawa Valley in Yokohama. She also plans to hold a solo exhibition featuring paintings and installations organized by the Kawasaki City Civic Museum in July.

Soya's work extracts experiential elements such as ripples in a bathtub, sparkling prisms, and the warm sunlight that changes over time, using vivid colors and astonishing descriptive power. They possess an intimate and physical charm that appeals not only to the visual senses but also to the sense of touch and body temperature. They are filled with the rich and subtle sensations experienced in daily lives, condensed into a microcosmic expansion, evoking the sensation of being enveloped in overflowing light for the viewer.

This exhibition will showcase approximately 15 new paintings capturing the vibrant vitality of plants and the dazzling movement of light.
