Art of Life - Art Brut Exhibition Vol. 9

Kumamoto Prefectural Museum of Art
Finished
"Art Brut," proposed by the French painter Jean Dubuffet, refers to the concept of expressing creativity by individuals who have not received formal art education. It is often translated as "Art of Life." While it is now commonly associated with creative expressions by individuals with disabilities, the fundamental idea behind Art Brut, according to Jean Dubuffet, is to appreciate creativity based on genuine individuality and spontaneity, free from the constraints of Western art values. Regardless of the presence of disabilities, Art Brut can serve as a bridge connecting people from all walks of life. Art Brut Partners Kumamoto was established in 2014 by enthusiasts inspired by this philosophy and numerous artworks. Their aim is to discover talents in Kumamoto and support their creative activities. In this 9th exhibition, works from 24 local artists will be showcased, emphasizing new creations. Together, they hope to advance towards the realization of an inclusive society without barriers.
