Joseph Beuys, Abraham David Christian
The year 1972, when Documenta 5 was held in Kassel, was a time of great upheaval in society, art, and culture. At that time, the 19-year-old Abraham David Christian accompanied the 51-year-old Joseph Beuys, witnessing the rapid changes of "1972." Beuys' work featured at Documenta 5 included the "Organization for Direct Democracy by Referendum" 100-day action. This period also saw the "Boxing Match" between Beuys and Christian on the final day of the exhibition (October 8), the "Academy Office Occupation" on October 10, and Beuys' dismissal the following day. Lastly, Christian's protest action against Beuys' dismissal from his academy professorship, "Creation Before/After." This exhibition showcases archive materials such as photographs, leaflets, statements, and posters related to these four sections that occurred within the short span of "October 1972."
