Appearance of “The Tale of Genji” Revival of the classics

Printing Museum
Finished
Since the Heian period (794-1185), “The Tale of Genji” had been kept as a manuscript in the archives of the court and aristocracy, and was therefore “Those in the know, know it very well”. However, with the advent of the print media in the early Edo period (1603-1868), the Tale of Genji became instantly famous. We will introduce how the world-class Japanese Heian romance was widely accepted by the common people of Edo (present-day Tokyo).
