Ancient Glass - Brilliant Design, Stunning Technique

Miho Museum
Finished
At the Miho Museum, there are over 200 precious pieces from the era when glass was considered a gem. Among them, the notable treasures include the "Pharaoh Head," an actual-size glass sculpture of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, the grandfather of King Tutankhamun, miraculously preserved until today. Additionally, the "Lion Head-shaped Cup" is an extremely rare case of an almost intact wine cup made of colorless and transparent crystal-like material, preserved for about 2,500 years.

Other exhibits include various ancient Mediterranean core glass perfume bottles and beads, mosaic glass showcasing exquisite delicacy, Roman glass displaying a colorful silver patina, cut glass passed down to the Shosoin Repository, and jade-like gems known as "Ruri" or "Hari" in China. Experience the astonishing beauty of glass spanning the ancient world.
