This is the fifth iteration of Tokyo Shibuya Koen-dori Gallery's traveling exhibition showcasing the allure of Art Brut.

To mark this milestone, the gallery presents this exhibition with globally renowned Art Brut scholar Edward M. Gomez as guest curator and aims to broaden interest in and appreciation of Art Brut works. This exhibition will focus on the expression of "abstraction" in Art Brut and will tour three venues in Tokyo, featuring the dynamic artistic worlds of seven Art Brut artists from Japan.

Throughout history, dreams have captivated human fascination with their mystery and ambiguous emotions. The meaning behind the imagery, moods, and elusive narratives they contain has long been a subject of inquiry. Many abstract works are similarly challenging to interpret, often appearing beyond comprehension. In this way, dreams and abstract art share fundamental characteristics. This collection of works features motifs reminiscent of artifacts from distant dreamscapes—nebulous images combined with dynamic lines, vibrant grid-like patterns, colorful irregular shapes, and surreal, dream-like forms. Viewing these works can evoke a sense of being lost in a labyrinth of abstraction.
