Ken Kuroi
A solo exhibition will be held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Ken Kuroi's (1947-) career as a picture book artist and illustrator. Born in Niigata Prefecture, Kuroi worked as a picture book editor at a publishing company in Tokyo before becoming independent as an illustrator. After publishing his first picture book "Amet Ame" (written by Setsuo Yazaki) in 1976, he has published works such as Nankichi Niimi's "Gongitsune" and "To Buy Handbags," Kenji Miyazawa's "Cat's Office," and Hazama. Kuroi has illustrated over 300 children's literature and picture books, including Hisako Tokoro's "Korowan" series. He has also published art books such as "Mississippi," in which he not only illustrated but also wrote the text himself.

In addition to these representative works, this exhibition will feature valuable early cuts as well as original illustrations for recent picture books such as "Makkuro" (written by Takuma Takasaki), which has become a hot topic by asking what children's creativity is. This exhibition will explore the charm of the world of Ken Kuroi, who has continued to be loved.
