Takumi Kikuchi
For his fourth solo exhibition, Takumi Kikuchi presents 10 new works including four large paintings. They are inspired by words beginning with “A,” such as Atlas (a punished giant who bears the celestial sphere), Ambiguitas (Latin for ambiguity), and Angel. The work "Olumpia1" was created as a tribute to one of Édouard Manet’s masterpieces, "Olympia.” The painting depicts a servant bringing a bouquet of flowers from a guest to Olympia, but she is not interested in it. Instead she gazes at us, the viewers of the painting. In his unique works, Kikuchi sensitively focuses on things that have nowhere to go, transforming them as if spinning a story.
