Reopening Commemorative Exhibition - The Essence of the Matsuoka Collection

Matsuoka Museum of Art
Finished

Artists

Taikan Yokoyama, Seitei Watanabe, Terukata Ikeda, Shoen Ikeda et al.
Seijiro Matsuoka, the founder and first director of the museum, loved calligraphy, paintings, and antiques from a young age and spent his life building a large collection. His collection of over 1,800 works of art was selected according to his own sensibilities, sometimes in the hope of finding something that was not yet available in Japan. In commemoration of the reopening of the museum after an absence of two years and eight months, this exhibition will introduce some of the best work from the Matsuoka collection in three categories: Oriental ceramics, Japanese paintings, and Western sculpture.
