Artists

Mika Ninagawa
Mika Ninagawa is one of Japan's leading contemporary photographers and film directors, known for her unique style. Her work is known for its unique style, and her gaze has consistently focused on the brightness and fragility of life. While Ninagawa is involved in a wide range of artistic expression, mainly through photography, this exhibition presents his latest photographs and videos of plants taken between last year and this year in various locations in Japan during the pandemic. By overlaying Ninagawa's work on the museum's Art Deco style decorated architecture, a place where various times intersect will emerge. Visitors will have the rare opportunity to relive Ninagawa's gaze as they migrate from plant to plant as if they were butterflies.

Prior to this exhibition, "Mika Ninagawa: Between Fiction and Reality," which toured 10 locations in Japan beginning in 2018, was a comprehensive look at Ninagawa's career, including the Corona Disaster. This exhibition will present Ninagawa's latest works, which are expected to take her career to the next level, in an unparalleled architectural space at the museum. The world of "kosai-iro," the colors of light that Ninagawa is now strongly attracted to, will be presented in a dynamic video installation and photographs that capture moments of reality that could easily be mistaken for dreams, creating a new axis of Ninagawa's "now" and "future."
