From July 2022, the Towada Museum of Contemporary Art will use “Space," a vacant house converted into a white cube by artist Mé, as a satellite venue to introduce works by young artists.
Eusuke Oiwa is an artist who works in a wide range of fields, including research, writing, and curation, as well as the creation of works centered on multi-layered spaces and words such as stories and dialogues. He not only stays in his own fields of interest such as narratology, philosophy of language, fiction studies, and game studies, but also incorporates (installs) various forms of language such as drama, storytelling, comic dialogue, and horror into space from his unique perspective, presenting them as "spatial art" with a unique sense of time.
For this exhibition, his first at a museum, Oiwa will carefully observe the nature of the "space," which is both the exhibition venue and the "mé" work, and the surrounding space in downtown Towada, in order to find a kind of "ground zero" between the drama (drama), the viewer's actions and lines of flow, and the exhibition system, which has been the artist's interests to date. The artist's interest has been in drama, the actions and lines of flow of the viewer, and the exhibition system. The manipulation of space, like a play on words, will be projected over and over from the exhibition space to the city of Towada, stirring the paranoiac imagination of the audience.
