To commemorate the first issue of "Sha Shin" magazine, Daisuke Yokota's solo exhibition "Room / Untitled" and the commemorative exhibition of the first issue of Sha Shin will be held simultaneously at Communication Gallery Fugensha from January 11 (Tue) to February 6 (Sun), 2022.
Daisuke Yokota, the winner of the 45th Ihei Kimura Photography Award, will be featured in the first issue of "Sha Shin,” which will be published by Fugensha on January 20, 2022. In this solo exhibition to commemorate the first issue of the magazine, the new work "Room / Untitled" and previously published works from Yokota’s "Room" series will be exhibited in the gallery on the third floor of Fugensha.
In addition, prints by Keizo Kitajima, Osamu Kanemura, Yusuke Yamatani, Hiroko Komatsu, Mayumi Hosokura, and Daido Moriyama, who are also featured in Sha Shin’s inaugural “Tokyo” issue, will be exhibited in the Papyrus Gallery on the second floor. All of the works exhibited by each artist will be for sale, and their writings will also be available for purchase.
In the history of Japanese photography, which has developed its own unique culture, "Tokyo" has been an important theme, and Fugensha hopes that you will take a look at how these leading photographers will interpret and express it in 2022, along with the first issue of Sha Shin magazine.
During the exhibition, there will be a reception to celebrate the first issue of Sha Shin magazine, a gallery talk by Daisuke Yokota and photo critic Kotaro Iizawa, and a staff talk by Jinichi Murakami (editor of Sha Shin), Shun Uchibayashi (photo critic), and Satoru Machiguchi (bookbinder).
