This will be the first solo exhibition in four years for the Tokyo-based artist Uniko Yaomoi.
Yaomoi draws imaginary children and creatures that are latent in the depths of people’s memories, which “may have existed somewhere or may have been seen someday. With a fanciful touch and colors, they are the inhabitants of a fairy tale world that is not real, and at first glance, they seem heartwarming. However, if one looks closely, you can see something unexpected here and there, something that is not only cute but also human. They live quite freely. Yes, they live under the morals and rules of the fairy tale world, but they also live with the cruelty and freakishness unique to the fairy tale world. They are not only sweet and cute but also have a touch of poison in them.
Pop and cute, surreal and sweet, and yet a little spicy. Take a look at the world of Yousou Yuniko, where slightly mysterious inhabitants await.
