Artists

Haruomi Izumi, Kenji Shimizu
Born in 1979, Haruomi Izumi graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts with a BFA in Design in 2005. In addition to solo exhibitions at major department stores and galleries across Japan, he has had a solo exhibition at Seizan Gallery New York in 2020. He is also an up-and-coming artist who has participated in many overseas fairs in Italy, England, and New York. He has produced a wide variety of works, including Japanese-style paintings on themes that symbolize Japan and traditional motifs, such as seasonal flowers and other plants, as well as works from his Soukoku series, in which he creates patterns on wood.

Kenji Shimizu was born in 1971. He graduated from the Graduate School of Design, Tokyo University of the Arts. In addition to solo exhibitions at major department stores and galleries nationwide, he has participated in many art fairs in Japan and abroad. Shimizu named a character born from an old tin bird toy “Bridley” and it appears in many of his works as an icon to express time. Shimizu’s unique view of the world has been established through such characters as the cute toy bird, the phoenix, which was revered as a sacred bird in ancient China, and the three-legged Yatagarasu, which appears as a divine messenger in Japanese mythology.
