27th Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava

Urawa Art Museum
Finished
The Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava (BIB) is the world’s largest original picture book competition, held every two years in Bratislava, the capital of the Slovak Republic. The first exhibition was held in 1967 in what was then Czechoslovakia, and the competition has been going on for more than half a century.

This exhibition commemorates the 100th anniversary of exchange between Japan and the Czech Republic in 2020. The exhibition will also feature award-winning works selected from around the world from BIB 2019 (the 27th exhibition) held in Bratislava in 2019, as well as works by representative Japanese artists. In addition, a special exhibition will focus on four Japanese artists, including this year’s gold medal winner, Chiki Kikuchi, to present their thoughts on their work, the background to the creation of their picture books, and the origin of their creative process, likening it to a “journey” that begins in the studio.
