Gumyocho, translated to “two-headed bird” or “life-sharing bird,” is a fowl that lives in paradise. With two heads and a single body, it can sustain different ways of thinking while living as one, much like people existing together in a single place and time. For Obon, five oil paintings and 100 “personal object” sculptures collaged from antique parts and amber from the Baltic Sea by artist Sanae Takahata during car travels last summer through Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania are on display.
