Artists

Tadanori Yokoo
Tadanori Yokoo, born in 1936 in Hyogo Prefecture, rose to prominence in the 1960s as a graphic designer with outstanding talent and also showed a shining presence in other fields such as painting, film, literature, music, and so on.
In this exhibition, about 90 paintings depicting Tama, Yokoo’s beloved cat who died in 2014, will be shown for the first time. Yokoo says about cats, “The Muse of the artist, the incarnation of beauty, the artist himself, and all the characters that the artist must have.” The series of these works, which were produced from 2014, the year Tama died, to this year 2020, were painted by Yokoo mainly based on her photographs with his feeling for Tama: “Let’s be a family again when we are reborn.”
