Renewal Exihibiton / Seascape - Atami

MOA Museum of Art
Finished

Artists

Hiroshi Sugimoto, Ninsei Nonomura, Korin Ogata et al.
MOA Museum of Art in Atami, which has been closed for the last 11 months for renovation, will reopen on February 17. The re-fitting of the exhibition space has been handled by New Material Research Laboratory, established by world-renowned contemporary artist Hiroshi Sugimoto and co-partnered by architect Tomoyuki Sakakida. Here they have used traditional Japanese materials such as Japanese cedar, black plaster and straw tatami mats to create an exhibition space that will emphasize the beauty of the work displayed. To celebrate the reopening, this exhibition will showcase masterpieces of Japanese and Chinese art carefully selected from founder Shigetaka Okada’s private collection. In addition, artworks by Sugimoto will be presented, including a work shot in Atami for his “Seascapes” series, and the video work “Accelerated Buddha.” Enjoy national treasures by artists such as Korin Ogata and Ninsei Nonomura on show in this brand new gallery space.
