Crafts for Daily Life

Akomeya Tokyo in La Kagu
Finished

Artists

Masanobu Ando, Tadaomi Yamamoto, Kazuto Kobayashi, Ayako Yamauchi et al.
The years between the 1990s and the 2010s have been referred to by some as the “era of crafts for daily life.” This move towards a different type of craft is characterized by a minimization of ego, the focus being on the crafted objects rather than the act of crafting itself. Kazuto Kobayashi has commented that the shift to a functional school of thought may be understood through the replacement of craft “works” with “things.” His suggestion is that it may be helpful to look at objects from both viewpoints, considering them as “works” and as “things.”

This exhibition will present objects by numerous artists affiliated with four different galleries.
