Bumpodo Gallery presents “Other Worlds,” an exhibition planed by the space Model Room.

In “The Self and Others,” psychiatrist R.D. Laing writes “Children and adults both require meaning – a place within others. They seek out territory in the eyes of others, a place where they will be given space to move.”

Laing’s words resonate even more deeply now. In our society of new individualism, we are increasing isolated and others are a far-away presence. How do we bridge this ever-growing gap of the self, a chasm that tempts us to stop thinking? In other words, our thinking has become myopic. We must go beyond our own realms to imagine the other, to contemplate far-off distances. This exhibition can be considered an experience in thinking about reaching beyond the gaps between us and these “other places.”
