Le Forum brings together three artists from different backgrounds who seem to have nothing in common. Yet works by Anne Laure Sacriste, Bernhard Schobinger and Nile Koetting explore a common issue, namely the varied relationships of the body to its surrounding space – the eponymous “ambiguous liaisons.”
Les Liaisons ambiguës opens like a cabinet of curiosities, with the striking creations of Swiss jewellery artist Bernhard Schobinger, whose pieces evoke an equivocal response, torn between the urge to wear them, and fear of their potential to inflict pain. Crafted mostly in metal, their bold forms sublimate the essence of their raw material, with raw or sharp, cutting edges. This display articulates a transitional space, leading to the works of French painter Anne Laure Sacriste, and young media artist Nile Koetting.
Sacriste’s installation draws parallels between the geometric motifs in Paolo Uccello’s painting The Battle of San Romano and the art of Zen gardens. Visitors are invited to meditate in a private space embracing the interior and exterior, the fragmentary and the whole. Lastly, Nile Koetting offers a neo-futurist vision of bodies and their realities, inspired by punk ideology and the aesthetic concepts of Mario Perniola. In a hyper-connected world, Koetting’s installation evokes the dissolution of emotion and belief, culminating in the dematerialisation of the human body itself.
