Yoshio Aoyama
On seeing Yoshio Aoyama’s work, the master of 20th century art, Matisse, exclaimed “This man has color”. After hearing this Aoyama called upon Matisse and became his disciple, repeatedly practicing his color skill through observational drawing and remaining close to Matisse up until his death. This exhibition gathers together 70 examples of Aoyama’s work from collectors around the country, many of which are on show to the public for the first time, offering an overview of Aoyama’s practice.
