Mayuko Wada
In this show, Mayuko Wada re-examines the problematic image of “the neighbor” as a familiar presence. Until now Wada has created works from an objective perspective, but here she experiments with adding a touch of subjectivity to them. Through this filter of subjectivity, her works explore a more intimate image of her subjects and expressions of them.

In the Norman McLaren film “Neighbours,” everything is presented as a mirror image as various disputes about small flowers blooming on the land of neighbors arise. By presenting these two “neighbors” from a bystander’s perspective, subjectivity and objectivity build upon each other. Wada felt a strong closeness to the correlation to be seen between the work and its “image.”
