Izumi Miyazaki “Stand - In”

Finished

Artists

Izumi Miyazaki
Having developed the foundations of her photographic style during her studies at Musashino Art University Izumi Miyazaki has continued since 2012 to feature self-portraits of herself in emotionless expressions set in the landscape of Tokyo’s suburbs or everyday situations. In a certain parody of the selfie she reveals the layer of the artificial and nonsensical which pervades our everyday lives. While her works may be viewed as embodiments of cold humor they may also be read as a reflection of our own conditions under the ceaseless developments of control society. In this her first solo exhibition in Japan, Miyazaki presents an installation based on the reconstruction of a photo studio and examines the role of the “stand-in”, a person who steps in for an actor in order to test lighting and positioning etc in TV and film.
