Since 2014, Yokota has been exhibiting “Matter,” a string of works stressing tactile and material aspects by printing images that hadn’t made it into previous exhibitions or publications onto large amounts of roll paper, and consolidating them with wax, at such occasions as the “On the flow II” exhibition (G/P+g3/gallery, Tokyo), the unseen photo fair special exhibition “anima on photo” (Amsterdam, 2014), PHOTO LONDON (London, 2015), and the JIMEI X ARLES international photography festival (Amoy, China, 2015). “Matter / Vomit,” a large-scale installation of 100,000 wax-processed photographs that is on display at the current Aichi Triennale 2016, was reproduced using 4,000 photographs documenting the exhibition and subsequent incineration of “Matter” at a vacant lot in Amoy city after its initial presentation at the photo festival.
