Artists

Takesada Matsutani
Takesada Matsutani made his debut as an artist in 1960 by using a plastic adhesive developed shortly after the end of WWII to create relief works with organic forms. The sensuous textures and forms that seemed to swell on the surface of his canvases were highly acclaimed for their investigation of new possibilities in painting. Matsutani also made work as a member of the avant-garde group Gutai led by Jiro Yoshihara. Thereafter Matsutani went to Paris as an exchange student, set up an atelier there, and focused on making black and white works.

This exhibition showcases 10 of Matsutani's newest works as well as pieces from the late 1980s onwards that were produced in Paris.
