Alan Aldridge
British artist Alan Aldridge was born in East London in 1943 and is currently based in Los Angeles. After handling the illustrations for a Penguin Books cover in 1965, he joined the company as art director where his style exerted a huge influence on the graphic design scene at the time. He turned freelance in 1968 and thereafter began to work closely with the Beatles and Apple Computer, producing many graphic images that would go on to become famous.

Aldridge produced illustrations for many celebrated albums from the 1960s and 70s. His graphic style grew to become representative of an era: the Beatles' "The Beatles Illustrated Lyrics", for instance, became a bestseller across multiple print runs, selling more than 7 million copies. Aldridge also produced well-known album graphics for The Who, Cream, Elton John and The Rolling Stones.

This exhibition at Paul Smith Space commemorates the release of several items produced through worldwide collaborations between Aldridge and Paul Smith, including works from his famed Chelsea Girls series. After Tokyo, this show will travel to the Paul Smith store in Los Angeles.
