TAB Talks #7 "Takashi Azumaya: What Do We Do About Contemporary Art?"

Izakaya dharma Cafe
Finished
The guest for this TAB Talk is Takashi Azumaya, an independent curator for the 2008 Pusan Biennale. Azumaya was previously a curator at the Setagaya and Mori Art Museums. He also curated the Gundam exhibition (2005-07 at the Suntory Museum Tempo-zan, the Ueno Royal Museum, etc.).

While Azumaya has considerable experience with the vibrant contemporary art scene, he is also well known for his various eccentric activities: DJ-ing, mysterious disappearances, and bombastic public statements, among others. Recently, as an artist, Azumaya also submitted his work to Geisai Museum 2. It's anyone's guess what his next move will be. What is it that makes him tick? At this TAB Talk, we will ask him about his particular stance and position within the contemporary art industry, as well as his future plans.

We hope artists and curators, as well as those with questions about the contemporary art scene, will participate in this talk.

Right after, we'll have a short segment called the 30-second Pitch. Five members of the audience will be invited to introduce themselves to the audience, promote a recent project, or announce a new product, website or company in under 30 seconds. If you're interested, please give your name and contact info at the reception table. Then for another hour, we'll have drinks, chatting, and networking among guests and audience members. Light meals will also be available.

TAB Talks are bilingual Japanese-English and start at 8:30pm, late enough for overworked designers like us. Limited seating of 90, come early.
