"My Childhood Friend, Buckie" Exhibition

Art Lab Tokyo
Finished

Artists

Rena Masuyama, Thander Sawada
Recent media darling in the newspapers and weeklies, "My Childhood Friend, Buckie" is the revenge of the post-bubble "Lost Generation" in Japan, consistently ignored by the rest of society. Portraits that radiate a chilling sense of trauma and original prints will be on display and for sale.
Buckie was founded on the concept of creating picture books on par with other artforms. This was the same concept that led to them receiving the Taro Okamoto prize, the work for which has now been published and circulated in public - a real triumph for contemporary art, which seldom enjoys such a social life of dissemination. And then their art takes on the status of "social sculpture" (Voice), becoming a sort of social crime of conscience. It's always a thrill to keep an eye out for what Thander Sawada and Renna Masuyama will get up to next. (Director, Taisuke Morishita)
