Makito Ayata
One could say that the history of art is in fact the history of image processing. This is one of the important elements dealt with in the work of Makito Ayata, who sees an inherent progression from painting to photography to computer graphics. This exhibition is the first time he has presented his "Images of Mother and Child" series of works in Tokyo, and features his two dimensional works with digital computer graphic images on the left and paintings based on those computer graphics on the right. Inspired by principle of stereograms, the artist has created works that will appear three dimensional if you cross your eyes when you look at them.

By trying to portray contemporary democratic society with his CG-style painting techniques that refer to CG, one can see his work as a contemporary version of the Nihon Yoga painting style of the past. Equally, there are connections to the Neo-Classicist movement fronted by Edward Lucie-Smith in the generation of artists that followed the Surrealists.

There will be a party from 17:00 on April 7th (Sat).
