Aya Komatsu "A Room in a State of Stillness"

Youkobo Art Space
Finished

Artists

Aya Komatsu
A number of acrylic mirrors with uneven surfaces are placed in a square formation on the floor. The surface of the mirror looks like the surface of water at the moment that rain falls or the moment when a droplet hits water's surface. The works displayed on the walls are transparent acrylic sheets with uneven surfaces. Due to their transparency they easily merge into their surroundings, but we can perceive the shadow cast through the bumpy surface. The work erodes time yet liberates space.

*On the same day as Komatsu Aya's opening (July 26th), there will also be a talk given by Mark Dunhill and Tamiko O'Brien, two British artists that will be joining the residency programme at Youkobo. Talk starts at 17:00.
