Taisuke Morishita
This exhibition reveals the way in which Morishita works with "Eco-Art".

For many years, Morishita had his studio in the Nakagin capsule tower, designed by Kisho Kurokawa, that was later found to have a high concentration of asbestos in it, and had made him ill. Taking up that issue in his work, Morishita held an exhibition last year called "Killer Asbestos". In response to that, Kisho Kurokawa made the unbelievable, groundless statement that the artist had deliberately disturbed the asbestos in order to make himself ill.

This building, situated in Ginza, is already scheduled for demolition and replacement. However, that process in itself brings up the risk of large quantities of asbestos being released into the surrounding area; a variety of measures will be needed in order to prevent this from happening. With that in mind, Morishita is holding this exhibition "A Plan for the Relocation and Reconstruction of Kisho Kurokawa's Mansion". Believing that the building should be preserved as a key work of architecture, and since Kurokawa's work is conceived of as "metabolist" architecture, Morishita argues that it would be easy to remove the building and relocate it elsewhere - suggesting the Osaka Expo park as an ideal location. He believes that placing it in the plaza right next to Taro Okamoto's "Tower of the Sun" would be ideal. In this exhibition he presents an installation with concrete plans that illustrate his proposal.

Furthermore, Morishita presents his plans for a work called "Abeston-chan" that would collect all the asbestos in the country and serve as a detoxifying sculpture of huge proportions to be erected in the Osaka Expo park - a work of art that would be a monument to the history of pollution in material civilization.
