The Museum of Modern Art, Kamakura has received a donation of over 200 works of Japanese Contemporary art from the Mashita family. Half of the collection consists of copper etchings by artists with long and respected careers like Donge Kobayahsi, Kaoru Saito, Shoichi Futami, and Soichi Bando. Particularly, Kaoru Saito's mezzotints of voluptuous women and Shoichi Futami's etchings, numbering over 50 pieces, are to be noted. The other half are wood block prints by artists like Hitoshi Karasawa, Takao Hiwasaki, Susumu Yamamoto, Masahiro Kurita, and Keisei Kobayashi. The portrait series and mysterious "Death and Changes" series by Hitoshi Karasawa are especially impressive.
This exhibition will display a selected 65 pieces from the Mashita Collection and other recently acquired works.
