Wols: Etchings and Watercolors

Kawamura Memorial DIC Museum of Art
Finished

Artists

Wols
Wols (1913-1951) is an artist whose highly unique oil paintings, done in the early 1950s, won him a place in the history of postwar art. His oil paintings are characterized by a strong material sense created by techniques like squeezing paint from tubes directly onto a canvas etc... These works made Wols a frontrunner in the ensuing Informel painting movement.
We will present a group of copper etchings (30 works) and watercolor paintings (3 works) that are on par with the artist’s oil paintings in terms of sensibility.
