19th and 20th Century Artists and Posters

Miyazaki Prefectural Art Museum
Finished
Posters, originating in ancient Rome, evolved significantly with printing advancements. In late 19th-century Paris, artists like Cheret, Toulouse-Lautrec, and Mucha emerged as popular poster designers. The city's walls were adorned with various posters, and the flourishing of free and innovative expression reached its peak. This marked the beginning of posters evolving from mere commercial announcements into a new art form. In the 20th century, masters such as Picasso, Matisse, Chagall, and Miro produced original posters to promote their solo exhibitions and events. This exhibition features around 160 works, celebrating the rich evolution of poster art.
