100 Years After the Great Kanto Earthquake

Nakano Historical Museum
Finished
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923.

The Great Kanto Earthquake was an unprecedented disaster that struck the Tokyo metropolitan area, resulting in numerous casualties, collapsed buildings, and other damage rarely seen in Japanese history.

The damage caused by the earthquake and the experiences of the people who lived through it were recorded in a variety of media, and these materials have become valuable sources for clearly conveying the situation at the time.

This exhibition introduces the damage at the time, people's activities and experiences, and the affected areas and their people's efforts toward recovery through more than 40 items, including 13 newly acquired items.
