Gerhard Richter’s large-scale retrospective exhibitions at the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art and The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, in 2022 attracted great public interest and were highly successful. On July 29, “Richter Raum,” a space that will permanently house his works, will open in Karuizawa (Nagano Prefecture). Located less than an hour from Tokyo, in a forest reminiscent of the lush suburbs outside of Cologne, it will offer visitors the opportunity to experience the work and world of Gerhard Richter.

The “Richter Raum” was created by Wako Works of Art, which has been working with the German artist and introducing his works to the Japanese public for over thirty years. The space was partially modeled after Atelier Richter in cooperation with the artist.

Reservations are required in advance due to the facility's small size. Please note that children under the age of twelve are not allowed to enter the venue.
