TeamLab Borderless: MORI Building DIGITAL ART MUSEUM

TeamLab Borderless moved from its former location in Odaiba to the Azabudai Hills in central Tokyo and reopened its doors to the public on February 9, 2024. The joint project between teamLab and Mori Building features a diverse group of artworks that have evolved since the closure of the previous location, as well as several new artworks on display for the first time.

Yokohama Museum of Art

The Yokohama Art Museum, designed by Japanese modernist master Tange Kenzo, is currently closed for renovations delayed by the global semiconductor shortage. Following improvements to the outdated facilities and the accessibility of the museum, it will reopen its doors on March 15, 2024. The same day also marks the opening of the 8th Yokohama Triennale. Toyota City Museum

A new museum will open in April in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture. The new comprehensive museum will cover topics from local history and culture to the nature and industry of the prefecture. Designed by Shigeru Ban, it embodies the concept of a “museum that continues to be shaped by everyone” and a “general museum unique to Toyota City.”

Pace Tokyo

Pace has announced the opening of a new gallery in the Azabudai Hills complex in central Tokyo. The gallery will occupy the lower floors of a building designed by Heatherwick Studio. In addition to 3,000 square feet of exhibition space on the first and second floors, the third floor will provide space for outdoor sculpture and a private terrace integrated into the building's concept of rolling hills.

Harakado

The new Tokyu Plaza Harajuku “Harakado” shopping complex is scheduled to open at the Jingumae intersection in spring 2024. In the 1960s, this area was home to the “Harajuku Central Apartments,” a cultural hub that attracted many writers and artists. Inheriting the spirit, Harakado will become home to the public bathhouse, open space, art gallery, cafes, and restaurants. The exterior and rooftop are designed by architect Akihisa Hirata.

VS.

VS.” is a brand new cultural facility scheduled to open in September in Umekita Park in Umeda, Osaka. As the main component of “JAM BASE,” which plays a central role in the district's development plans, the facility aims to become a catalyst for change and innovation in the lifestyles and values of visitors. Construction is being carried out by Nikken Sekkei Ltd. (design and construction supervision) and Tadao Ando Architect & Associates (design supervision). Most of the facilities will be located underground within a total area of approximately 1,400 square meters.

TODA BUILDING

Toda Corporation is in the process of rebuilding its headquarters building in Kyobashi, Tokyo, and the project is scheduled for completion this autumn. The lower floors of the building will be dedicated to art and culture, housing a museum and gallery complex. Public art will also be displayed in the common areas as part of the company's ART POWER KYOBASHI art project.

The Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, Tokyo

The Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, Tokyo (MIMT), is scheduled to reopen on November 23, 2024, after an extended closure for equipment replacement and building maintenance. The reopening will be celebrated with a special Commemorative Reopening Exhibition: Toulouse-Lautrec & Sophie Calle (tentative title). It will be the first time that Calle’s new works will be shown anywhere in the world.
