Tokyo Gallery + BTAP
Gallery in The Ginza, Shimbashi area
Closed today (Health-Sports Day)
Opened in the Ginza area of Tokyo as the first contemporary art gallery in Japan, Tokyo Gallery has consistently played an important part in the development of Japanese, Chinese and Korean contemporary art. It has focussed on Japan since its 1958 exhibition of Yoshihige Saito's work, Korea since the "Five Korean Artists - Hinsek (White)" exhibition in 1975, and the "China Contemporary Art - Now!" exhibition in 1989 marked the beginning of its involvement with China. In 2002, it opened Beijing Tokyo Art Projects (B.T.A.P.) in the Dashanzi district of Beijing, and from its bases in Asia's two most dynamic cities, Tokyo Gallery strives to promote the latest developments in Asian contemporary art to the rest of the world.
